Spatial Reuse Protocol/Dynamic Packet Transport (SRP/DPT)

The newest networking technology to be developed by Cisco is Dynamic Packet Transport (DPT). This technology is also referred to as the Spatial Reuse Protocol (SRP). SRP is in fact the media-independent MAC layer protocol that provides the capability for addressing, packet stripping, managing bandwidth, and controlling messages on a DPT ring. A good analogy to use is SRP is to DPT as HDLC is to V.35. SRP is supported on the OC-12 line cards for the 12000 routers and the 7200/7500 port adapters.
