Configuring Interfaces

Interfaces on a switch are called switchports. IP addresses are not configured on switchports. In fact, switchports take very little configuration to function. You can simply plug in the devices, and they will work. However, to use some the advanced functions that are discussed later in this chapter or to verify switchports, you must know how to access the ports and how to configure them in port configuration mode.

This section covers accessing a single port or a set of switchports. Enabling and verifying the port status is covered as well.
