3.4. Verifying and Troubleshooting

Now that you have gone through so many of the configurations for STP, it is time to look at how you can verify and troubleshoot any issues. Any changes to the network can cause a shift in the topology. These shifts ultimately may prevent you from knowing exactly what the topology is, at least the topology you thought you had. If you know for sure that something changed or you are trying to determine whether something changed, you have to know where to find that information. You can use commands and outputs from the command line interface of a switch to determine the topology of STP. You can also figure out which switch is the root bridge and get the status of the ports.
