Now you can implement and configure three different redundancy protocols. HSRP and VRRP, you learned, are very close to being the same. VRRP is the open standard can be used on any vendor's equipment. HSRP is proprietary and has a couple of features and configurations not available in VRRP; remember the preempt and interface tracking features.

GLBP is also a Cisco-proprietary protocol. It can provide true load balancing for all of your clients, even if they are in the same subnet.
