18.4. QoS Mechanisms

This section takes you through what I typically refer to as the QoS mechanisms. By mechanisms, I am referring to all of the features and standards that you can use in your network and policies to control traffic and prevent congestion, delay, and packet loss. I take you through the different standards that you can use to mark or color traffic. Once you have the traffic marked, you can use those markings to queue the traffic. Once you have queued the traffic it can be forwarded based on the priority that you set. Finally, I cover some of the other features in traffic conditioning and congestion avoidance the can help you maintain traffic flow and help resolve bandwidth issues.
