Cisco IP Telephony Solutions

Cisco offers numerous IP Telephony solutions that scale from the smallest of SMBs through large enterprises and ISP/carrier environments. Each solution is composed of the following high-level elements:

  • A call processing application (CallManager or its variant, such as CallManager Express [CME], for example)

  • A hardware platform that supports the call processing application, which can assume the form of one of the following:

    - A modular chassis with multiple specialized cards

    - A rack-mountable or a tower-based server

    - A router/gateway

  • Voice applications that, as a function of capacity, might either require their own dedicated hardware platforms or be able to coexist on the same platform as the call processing agent
