IP Telephony Deployment Considerations

Two factors make telephony successful: high speech quality and high service availability. Take away the speech quality and make the service unpredictable, and telephony falls apart as an effective business communications tool. Speech quality tends to be subjective, whereas service availability is more readily subject to measurement. International standards in the form of ITU-T recommendations define methods to quantify the voice quality of a telephone call because service availability without speech quality is not enough for any telephony solution to be successful.
