Managing Configuration Files

Cisco routers and switches happen to use two different configuration files: a startup-config file to save the configuration to use each time the device boots, and the running-config file that holds the currently used configuration for current use inside RAM.

This last of three major sections of the chapter reviews some key facts about these two configuration files. It also discusses the copy command and how you can use it to copy the contents of the configuration files. This section ends with a brief reminder of the setup process by which the router can build an initial configuration file.
