NetFlow

ImageLesson 3: NetFlow

Even with such powerful network management tools like Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), it quickly became apparent to Cisco engineers that networking professionals would need a simple and efficient method for tracking TCP/IP flows in the network. This information could be used to easily identify potential network bottlenecks, guide network improvements and redesigns, and could even assist in billing consumers of the network. Because of these needs, Cisco invented NetFlow. This powerful network protocol quickly became a standard, and it is now supported by other networking giants.
