Monitoring and Demonstrating Work and Progress

Most contracts of any significant length or size provide for a schedule of payments to the vendor over the life of the relationship. However, if you fail to properly link compensation to vendor progress or the delivery of value, the contract may create counterproductive incentives for the vendor and unnecessarily increase your company's exposure in the event that problems arise on the project. In addition, if the criteria for demonstrating that progress or delivery of value is unclear, you and your vendor may experience disputes if you disagree as to whether your vendor has achieved a milestone.
