Introduction

This chapter focuses on the evolution of “information management” and the business and technology ramifications as organizations move forward from today's technology landscape to tomorrow's. The chapter begins with a focus on the technology underpinnings of an information management value chain (to provide context) and then describes corporate performance management (CPM) as the business driver that will require organizations to increase the information management “value-add” to adequately measure, monitor, and respond to changes in the business climate.
