Most Common Performance Challenges

Surprising as it may seem, the Internet is still run by humans, and most major issues and outages can be traced back to human or procedural error. The major challenges to running applications with high performance requirements over the Internet, however, are more technical in nature. There are several technical challenges; we concentrate on LAN–WAN mismatch, Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), and Transport Control Protocol (TCP).
