Though our industry is still quite young (relative to other business functions like accounting and manufacturing), we have seen CIOs evolve from something akin to a “corporate plumber” to the navigator for entire corporations. We've moved from being responsible for running wires and giving visibility to accounting data in huge mainframes to simultaneously virtually connecting data and devices of an entire enterprise and driving core business planning.
