Chapter 2. Scope of the CIO

Where have the “good old days” gone? If you have been a CIO over the past decade, you probably remember the time when you had whopping signature authority, when tech-light CxOs[1] looked to you for wisdom and direction, when the board expected you to turn the ship at a moment's notice to tackle the latest technology for the business to remain competitive. Depending upon your particular situation, those may have been either the good times or the dark ages.

[1] By “CxO” we mean any Chief corporate Officer such as Chief Financial, Chief Executive, or Chief Operating Officers.
