CIO Reporting Relationships

The late 1990s saw an increase in the number of CIOs directly reporting to the chief executive officer. Has that trend reversed? In one survey conducted by CIO Magazine, it seems that the CIO is reporting to the CEO less often (CIO 2004).

In fact, from a high of 51 percent in 2002, only 40 percent of CIOs report directly to CEOs in 2004, according to the survey (Figure 1.2).
