Using an Alpha channel to model

If you are a user of After Effects or Photoshop , you probably understand the concept of an Alpha channel, it's a grayscale image used to define transparency, where 100 percent white indicates full opaqueness, 100 percent black indicates fill transparency, and the gray values in between represent varying levels of transparency. You can use this information and apply it to materials, and end up saving loads of time, creating 3D objects with bitmap images and a corresponding Alpha channel, rather than tackling the task using actual 3D modeling tools. This recipe shows us how we can easily apply an Alpha channel to a piece of geometry and end up with a 3D object.
