Using the Atom Array tool

The Atom Array tool is a bit of a one trick pony, but it's a very good trick. An Atom Array object takes any object you place below it as a child and converts it to sort of a skeleton of its subdivision. It places spheres at the vertexes and lines connecting each of them to create the sort of balls and stick models you used in chemistry class. It's very useful for creating things such as cages that would otherwise require a lot of separate pieces and work to position them properly. In this recipe what we are going to create is the timeless classic, the hamster wheel, using primarily the Atom Array object.

How to do it...

  1. Let's start by creating the main part: the wheel. We'll need a Cylinder object from our Primitives
