Creating from splines – extrude NURBS

One of the more useful NURBS objects is Extrude NURBS, which takes the outline of a spline and extrudes to create solid surfaces. Splines are lines made up of points, and they can be drawn, made from one of the many preset shapes in Cinema 4D, or imported from Adobe Illustrator to create 3D objects from custom designs drawn out in that application. Splines can't be seen when rendered, so we need to combine them with Extrude NURBS in order to make them have surfaces and appear visible in our renders.

Getting ready

Locate the Fleur_De_Lis.ai file in the C4D Content Pack and have it ready to go when called for in this recipe.
