Introduction

This volume attempts to capture the broad contours of the Indian debate on women’s issues during the last three decades (1975–2005). It addresses women’s collective struggle for voice, visibility and vision for a better future; women’s engagement with national and international debates; responses of the nation state to developmental needs of women in a changing political and economic scenario and the growing demand for an accountable governance for the realization of the goals of gender equity and justice.
