Belief #4How Deliberate Change Happens

WHEN YOUR ORGANIZATION CREATES a strategy or a vision, it sets out on a path toward a deliberate goal. The often unspoken assumption (belief) is that this path of deliberate change will be the shortest distance to the goal, that it will be a straight line.

The same assumption applies to personal goals. Your expectation may be that, once you have a goal, all you have to do is behave in a way that achieves it. But this doesn’t account for several facts:

  • Intentions and goals are only one cause of behavior. Others are: the immediate situation, your current thoughts and attention, your energy levels, competing priorities, skill levels, what people and groups around you do and say, tools available, ...
