More than ever, maximizing individual performance is crucial: everyone is required to do more and dig deeper. Coaching has an important role to play in pushing performance and stretching the boundaries of personal capability. Each person has a unique optimal level of tension. What is the impact of this for the coach and coachee interacting and how do we calibrate the tension within our laboratory of learning, our coaching room? In this chapter we focus on how to create constructive tension once courageous goals have been set, feedback delivered, and accountability held.
