Chapter Four. Tradeoffs of Using Flexibility for Higher Work-Life Integration

 

We are in a client-driven business. We have to be available when the clients are available. Even when the kids are home after school, when I hear the phone ring, I know I have to run and take a phone call. It is much more imposing on personal life and children. When I worked in an office setting all day, there were times I missed [work-related] calls when I wasn’t at my desk. Now as a partner in my own firm, often working from my home, I feel I have to be available to work all the time.
