Newsgroups

Similar to discussion lists, Internet newsgroups provide a way for groups of people to post messages for all to see. Unlike discussion lists, newsgroups don’t maintain a member list. Everyone is free to post and read messages.

Microsoft Newsgroups

Microsoft maintains about three dozen newsgroups specifically about Exchange, Outlook, and Exchange 2000. There is also one newsgroup devoted to messaging in general. Links to these newsgroups can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/support/Newsgroups.htm.

Other Newsgroups

The following newsgroups aren’t listed on the Microsoft site; nevertheless, they host discussions of interest to messaging developers:

  • microsoft.public.win32.programmer.messaging

  • microsoft.public.platformsdk.messaging

  • microsoft.public.mail.misc

Deja.com’s Usenet Discussion Service

This web site allows searching newsgroup archives for particular key words or phrases. This is an awesome site if you don’t know precisely which newsgroup you want: http://www.deja.com/usenet/.
