This is the name given to a directory for HSG, ISO 9660 and Joliet file systems to reference the current directory.

“..” directory

This is the name given to a directory for HSG, ISO 9660 and Joliet file systems to reference the previous directory.

!00

A special construction used with the search in the Sector Display tool in CD/DVD Inspector. This literally means to search for “not 00” or searching for any byte that is not binary zero.

1/4 wave plate

Part of the optical assembly on the sled for reading CDs or DVDs. Quarter wave plate is used to turn plane-polarized light into circularly polarized light and vice versa.
