Digital signal processors (DSP) are the heart of any VoIP network. DSPs provide the most important job of anything on the network. If your network is set up 100 percent correctly, but you have a bad DSP located at the beginning or end of a voice path, all is for naught. DSPs are where the encoding and decoding of your voice between analog and digital devices takes place. All Cisco voice products have some sort of DSPs; without having this hardware, they would not be able to provide voice support.
