The GW is probably one of the most important devices on a VoIP network. Although the use of a GW is an option on a network, it should be considered mandatory. If you do not use them, you really do not have a real network.

You can implement GWs with just a few commands on the end devices; the majority of configurations are located on the GWs. Gateways act as the translator between different types of networks, dial planner, security enforcer, and connectivity director to the public switched telephone network (PSTN) and voice/data networks.
