Network Address Translation Rules

This section discusses the configuration of NAT rules using Router MC. NAT permits a router or other edge device to translate private network addresses into public network addresses. Although this feature adds a small amount of protection to the addresses, the real significance of NAT is that it limits the requirement for organizations to purchase public addresses.

Address Pool

Router MC supports dynamic NAT only and applies to it an overload feature that permits what is known as port-level NAT or Port Address Translation (PAT). Router MC uses PAT if the addressing requirements of the network exceed the available addresses in the dynamic NAT pool.
