Chapter 7. Understanding OSPF Concepts
This chapter begins a series of four chapters with a similar flow. Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) and Enhanced Interior Gateway Protocol (EIGRP) are the two most popular IPv4 routing protocols used inside enterprises today. This chapter introduces OSPF concepts, followed by a chapter that gets into details about OSPF implementation. Chapters 9 and 10 do the same for EIGRP.
In particular, this chapter takes a long look at OSPF Version 2 (OSPFv2) concepts. OSPFv2 has been around over 20 years and is the most commonly used OSPF version for advertising IPv4 routes. It is the OSPF that has been part of CCNA R&S throughout most of the history of CCNA R&S.
