WAVE Appliances
Cisco WAAS is available in appliance form factor, and it is called Cisco Wide Area Virtual Engine (WAVE). The older version of the WAAS appliance was called Wide Area Application Engine (WAE). Therefore, in WAAS documentation you might find both terms (WAE and WAVE) used for the appliance. Cisco WAVE is the most powerful option in terms of WAAS throughput. Cisco WAVE appliances are also used to host branch office IT services locally in the branch.
