Operational Planes
The Cisco UCS Fabric Interconnects act as a single point of management providing independent data plane (ASICs based), control plane (Ethernet and FC switching), and management plane (Cisco UCS Manager) functions. The management plane is redundant and clustered, active/passive to ensure availability of management plane in case of component failure. Figure 16-18 shows the Cisco UCS Fabric Interconnect architecture and its operational planes.
