UUID Identity Pools

The Universally Unique Identifier (UUID) is standardized by the Open Software Foundation; it’s a 128-bit address spread over five fields. Many schemes are available to generate a UUID. There’s a prefix and suffix element to the UUID; typically the prefix is fixed (utilize the default pool, root level) and unique to that UCS domain, whereas the suffix is optionally modified to indicate a domain ID and the host ID, sequentially assigned. You could also modify the prefix to match the Cisco OUI (24-bit) as used in the WWN pools, and pad the suffix as necessary.
