Our third and final option for aggregation layer convergence makes use of VE-to-VE port connectivity between the unified access and aggregation layers. VE_Port stands for Virtual Edge port, which is a port designation on one FCoE Fibre Channel Forwarder toward the other. VE_Ports define the Inter-Switch Links, or ISLs, that interconnect FCoE Fibre Channel Forwarders in the multihop FCoE topology of the Unified Fabric. VE_Ports are analogous to the E_Ports in traditional Fibre Channel protocol. VE_Ports can take a shape of a single physical link or can be port channeled for further resiliency and increased storage traffic bandwidth.
