Cisco MDS 9000 NX-OS provides a truly open API for the Cisco MDS 9000 family based on the industry-standard SNMP. Commands performed on the switches by Cisco DCNM-SAN use this open API extensively. Also, all major storage and network management software vendors use the Cisco MDS 9000 NX-OS management API.
Fabric Device Management Interface (FDMI) capabilities provided by Cisco MDS 9000 NX-OS simplify management of devices such as Fibre Channel HBAs though in-band communications. With FDMI, management applications can gather HBA and host OS information without the need to install proprietary host agents.
