Data Plane for Multicast Traffic
You might be faced with situations in which there is a need to establish multicast communication between remote sites. This can happen when the multicast sources are deployed in one site and the multicast receivers are in another remote site. In the OTV control plane section, we distinguished between two scenarios where the transport infrastructure is multicast enabled or not.
The multicast traffic needs to flow across the OTV overlay; in this case, we use a set of Source Specific Multicast (SSM) groups in the transport to carry the Layer 2 multicast streams. These groups are different from the ASM groups used for the OTV control plane.
