Spine and Leaf Design

Most large-scale modern data centers are now using spine and leaf design. This design can have only two layers that are spine and leaf. In the spine and leaf design, a leaf switch acts as the access layer, and it connects to all the spine switches. The end hosts, such as servers and other edge devices, connect to leaf switches. The spine provides connectivity between the leaf switches; therefore, adding more spine switches can increase the capacity of the network, and adding more leaf switches can increase the port density on the access layer.
