FabricPath Data Plane
The Layer 2 packets forwarded through a FabricPath network are of the following types: known unicast packet, multicast packet, unknown unicast, or broadcast packets.
Known unicast forwarding is done based on the mapping between the unicast MAC address and the switch ID that is already learned by the network. FabricPath IS-IS computes the SwitchID reachability for each switch in the network. Multiple equal cost paths could exist to a destination switch ID. In this case, the packets are flow-based load balanced to distribute traffic over multiple equal cost paths.
