Components of vPC

In vPC configuration, a downstream network device that connects to a pair of upstream Nexus switches sees them as a single Layer 2 switch. These two upstream Nexus switches operate independently with their own control, data, and management planes. However, the data planes of these switches are modified to ensure optimal packet forwarding in vPC configuration. The control planes of these switches also exchange information so it appears as a single logical Layer 2 switch to a downstream device.
