Port Channel Modes

Member ports in a port channel are configured with channel mode. Nexus switches support three port channel modes: on, active, and passive. When you configure a static port channel without specifying a channel mode, the channel mode is set to on.

To run LACP, you first enable the LACP feature globally on the device. Then you enable LACP for each channel by setting the channel mode for each interface to active or passive. You can configure channel mode active or passive for individual links in the LACP channel group when you are adding the links to the channel group.
