VTP Configuration and Verification

Now that you know how to enable and control the extension of VLANs between switches, let’s explore a tool created to help ease the pain of configuring VLANs across every switch of your data center; this older Cisco protocol and tool is called the VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP). VTP is a Cisco proprietary tool on Cisco switches that advertises each VLAN configured in one switch (with the vlan number command) so that all the other switches learn about that VLAN. However, for various reasons, many enterprises choose not to use VTP.
