So far in this chapter, we have discussed how Cisco NX-OS has been architected from its foundation to provide data center class software modularity and HA. Now that you are familiar with the NX-OS features, this section describes how the software licensing model supports the modular software architecture.
Cisco NX-OS is composed of two different images, the kickstart image and the system image. When doing software upgrades, networking administrators must download and install both of these images for the appropriate version they want to install or upgrade to.
