Software High Availability in Cisco NX-OS

Along with the service restart functionality of Cisco NX-OS, the software offers what are called high availability (HA) policies. Cisco NX-OS allows for each service to have an associated set of HA policies that specify what restart methodology will be used for a failed service. NX-OS supports HA policies that define how NX-OS restarts a service if it fails. The policies can be simple, like the default policy on a single supervisor Nexus switch: The switch simply resets the supervisor, restarting NX-OS. (On a dual-supervisor switch, the default HA policy causes a failover from the current supervisor to the standby supervisor, which does not cause an outage.)
