Ethernet WANs that Create a Layer 2 Service

The WAN services implied by Figure 3-9 include a broad number of services, with a lot of complex networking concepts needed to understand those services. Interestingly, Ethernet began life as purely a LAN technology, with Ethernet growing to be the only commonly used wired LAN technology used today. Over those same years, Ethernet standards improved to support long enough cabling distances for Ethernet to be as effective as a WAN technology as well. This book focuses on one specific Ethernet WAN service that can be easily understood if you understand how Ethernet LANs work.
