The IS-IS State Machine

The IS-IS state machine is responsible for the flow of information in the IS-IS architecture. The state machine is comprised of four processes: receive, update, decision, and forward. IS-IS also includes a Routing Information Base (RIB), which is composed of two databases, the link-state database and the forwarding database, and is essentially the routing table.

The receive process is responsible for receiving the LSAs and passing them onto the other three processes.
