Summary

This chapter has reviewed the OSPF implementation that Cisco supports. OSPF is an Interior Gateway Protocol (IGP) designed for IP networks that supports IP subnetting, tagging of externally derived routing information, and packet authentication; it makes use of IP multicast when sending and receiving packets. You began by examining the many items that you need to make your OSPF design function in your environment. You covered the many features and parameters that you can “tune” to make your OSPF implementation more robust in your environment. You finished the chapter with a look at different ways that you can monitor and maintain your OSPF configuration.
