EtherChannel Overview

In some cases, you might want to group multiple switch ports together for them to appear as a single port. EtherChannel port groups provide you with this ability. These port groups behave as a single logical port for high-bandwidth connections between switches or between switches and servers. An EtherChannel balances the traffic load across the links in the channel and provides redundancy in the case of a link failure within the EtherChannel by sending traffic that was previously carried over the failed link to the remaining links.
