Catalyst Operating System
The Catalyst switch family runs a version of software referred to as CatalystOS (CatOS). Like IOS, CatOS provides common functionality, scalability, and security for all products across the switches that support it. The CatOS line of operating systems currently comes in one of the following types:
Hybrid— The hybrid series is the same operating system that originally shipped with the first Catalysts, with some enhancements.
Native— The native series aims to bring configuration of the Catalyst switch more in line with the commands that are traditionally used in Cisco IOS Software.
