Password Recovery Through Resetting the Device

Some older Cisco Catalyst devices with older Catalyst operating systems (CatOSs), such as the Catalyst 5000, 5500, 2926G, and 2926 series of switches, require you to reset the device to recover a password. This is possible because the CatOS ignores your password settings for 30 seconds after the device completes the initialization, giving you this amount of time to complete the password-recovery procedure. Follow these steps to accomplish this method of password recovery:

Step 1.
Attach a terminal or a PC with terminal emulation to the switch's console port.
Step 2.
Power-cycle your switch by turning it off and then back on.
