Securing Network Services

Microsoft recently released and made freely available several tools to aid you in securing a Windows server. These tools include the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA), Hfnetchk, IIS Lockdown Wizard, UrlScan, and others, as described in this section.

The MBSA tool allows you to scan Windows NT4, 2000, and XP computers for security misconfiguration. This tool also scans for installed application services, such as Internet Information Server (IIS), SQL Server, and Exchange Server as well as their configurations.
