THREE TYPES OF CUSTOMERS

One of the biggest challenges facing staff and management is figuring out how many people will want to access service in their stores. We have already seen how unpredictable arrivals are, but there is a further difficulty: Not all of us go into a store to buy something today.

I have discovered through years of observation that there are three types of shoppers in a store at any given point in time. It is impossible to distinguish between them with the naked eye. If you ask a member of any of the three groups whether they would like help before they are ready you will get the same reply – “I’m just looking.”

But if you waited for them to ask for help, you may still be waiting when they leave the store without having spoken ...
