Aflatoxin Ml at elevated but low levels in consumers’ milk was observed in routine checks in the south of Sweden in February 2006. Up to 257 ng aflatoxin M1 per kg raw milk was found. This case describes the investigation that followed and the actions that were taken to protect the consumer. The source of the contamination was eventually traced and its route of entry to the food chain determined.
